Planes can be some of the least healthy and most uncomfortable places to spend several hours. I recorded a short video to show you what I take on board during a short (less than 2-3 hour) flight. While being on a plane for a few hours doesn’t seem like it warrants a full bag of snacks, there are logical reasons for this:
- If your flight happens to fall during a meal time and you don’t have options for healthy choices otherwise (especially if it’s first thing in the morning and there’s no time to make breakfast), non-perishable snacks are a good easy substitute and can also save you money instead of paying airport rates. This is one instance when healthy packaged foods can be used in place of whole foods!
- These snacks are not just for the flight, they are also for the trip ahead to make sure you have healthy food in case you’re in a situation in which there are no quality food/snack options that fit your dietary preferences. Better to have a healthy snack on hand than skip calories that you may need (I don’t like to force intermittent fasting).
- These snacks may also serve as “sports nutrition” if you plan to workout and need clean-burning fuel pre, during or post.
