For a while now, I’ve been on a quest to “clean up my lifestyle.” Late last year I got even more serious with it. And no, not in a diet sense nor in the sense that I’m secretly doing bad things haha. I’m talking about all the products used “in life” on a regular basis that are likely exposing us to harmful chemicals and ingredients. The laundry list of items is almost endless, as are the negative side effects associated — everything from hormonal disruption and imbalance to disease.

Among the big culprits are deodorants, which almost always include aluminum, parabens, carcinogens (for real!), and several other toxic ingredients. As soon as you slather onto your pits, your skin absorbs all those toxins like a kitchen sink. Makes you want to quit what you’re using right now, huh?! But let’s face it, going without is not an option (unless you want to be ostracized), and finding a safe, aluminum-free, all-natural alternative is tough because most of them just don’t work. Starting several years ago I wanted to break free from aluminum and the bad chemicals, and since then I’ve tried the all-natural brands such as Tom’s, Everyman Jack and a couple others… none worked for me. Stinky pits ensued, money wasted. (Side note: I’ve heard that Everyman Jack works for others, but I didn’t have the same success.)So I went back to the traditional stuff, and not happy about it. Then last winter when I was really “cleaning up” I was on the verge of making my own and even had some recipes. (But not exactly thrilled to do that; time consuming and would it even work?!).

Then I came across Primal Pit Paste doing some random searches on the internet. Their recipe is close to a lot of the homemade deodorant recipes I see in holistic/wellness books, so I decided to give it a shot.

PPPlogoPrimal Pit Paste Ingredients:

Organic coconut oil

Organic Raw Grade A Shea butter

Non-aluminum Baking Soda

Organic Arrowroot powder

 Organic essential oils

I bought the Primal Pit Paste Stick. I’m all for homemade but if someone else is making the same thing at a very reasonable price, I’m in. Heck I bet it actually saved me money vs. buying the ingredients necessary for the safe homemade kind (for example: a small of just coconut oil alone is usually $10 or more; a jar of PPP is $8.95; the stick is $10.95). PPP1Plus, as soon as I saw the PPP website I liked the vibe. Clearly good people trying to do good things in the world — I want to support that. Their standards of living and lifestyle closely aligned with how I like to live. Amy, the founder, is an athlete and CrossFitter, and she’s a mother who wanted to avoid putting toxic chemicals in her kids through things like traditional deodorant. I’m not a mom but I am in charge of making people healthier through my coaching, the podcast, this newsletter, etc.

So that’s the back story… now, let’s talk results.

Does Primal Pit Paste work?

YUP! YOU BET IT DOES!

I would not lie about this, folks. And I think I’m a pretty darn good candidate to test if a deodorant really works being that I’m an athlete, personal trainer/coach, and public speaker. Those jobs all equate to: sweaty mess and stinky if you’re not careful, haha. Honestly, I was skeptical with PPP especially based on my exPPP3periences with past all-natural deodorants that failed me. But within a day I could tell it was working and I haven’t looked back since. I trust it 100 percent. And it lasts a good while too. I think I bought my first stick in December-ish, and I just recently had to place a new order about a month ago.

Also, interestingly I notice that I actually now need less deodorant applications these days, and I don’t get stinky as easily. I can even forget it for a day and be ok. Granted, it’s true that “less stink” may correlate with a great diet and internal health, but not much has changed in my diet…. I only noticed a difference in this regard since using PPP. Hm.

I bought the stick as mentioned, but there’s also a paste in a jar and other products outside of deodorant, including a yummy lip balm (I got Orange Creamsicle), and powders. They also offer unscented as a variety of fresh scents (not fragrance though!). I’ve tried unscented and Jasmine in the stick, as well as other scented samples, and all are great; the scents are not overwhelmingly strong nor girly. Take a look to see their lineup of products…. and now that I know you want some, the good news is that you have a chance to try some for free:
