Note: Avoid anything with fabric softener and skip the softener sheets in the dryer! Why? Fabric softeners and dryer sheets are laden with chemicals that end up coating the surface of your clothes and laundry. These chemicals are known to disrupt our central nervous system, contribute to allergies, are carcinogenic, and can have an overall negative impact on health. But what about that “nice” smell you get with fresh laundry? Don’t get too excited–it’s toxic and doing harm to your wellbeing. Maybe you (or your kids) feel no negative effects now, but over time we become more sensitive to the fragrances and chemicals and an allergy or condition can develop… even if you were once seemingly ok using these products. Or, these items may secretly be contributing to a condition you or one of your family members already has, whether an allergy, autoimmune issue, etc. Furthermore, these chemicals are shown to make little to no difference on laundry and can even “dry out” your items, making them lose softness more quickly. What does this all mean? Basically, a marketing hype has led us to believe we “need” these products, but that couldn’t be farther from the truth.
